An occurrence that we hope Apple addresses in future updates

OS X Yosemite is perhaps just as buggy as all OS X releases before it when it comes to the first few months of usage in the wild. Well, perhaps a tad more buggy than some iterations, but certainly not a black sheep.

However, Yosemite does present one major nuisance that we’d love to see fixed in OS X 10.10.2: crashing Spotlight.

Spotlight, for those who aren’t well acquainted with the Mac, is the system-wide search tool in OS X. I use Spotlight for many things during a regular workday. Chief among those is calculating and converting stuff. Spotlight is an awesome shortcut to both the calculator utility and the web, and it does these two jobs brilliantly. But not flawlessly.

When fed one too many characters, it tends to crash. You can rapidly invoke it again by hitting CMD + Space and it will reappear in a split second. But it’s annoying and counterproductive, especially when calculating and / or converting large numbers.

It’s well known that Spotlight can take its toll on a Mac, especially on low-specced machines. This happens because the tool is programmed to index almost every file present on the computer’s hard drive. Sometimes, it can be a tough nut to crack even for Apple. However, we certainly hope that they nail it in OS X 10.10.2.
