Data from independent digital marketing agency Greenlight shows a huge increase in the number of online searches pertaining to iPhones in the days leading up to Christmas 2012.

In November 2012, Greenlight recorded a total of 12 million searches on Google UK for Audio & Accessories, Cameras & Camcorders, PCs, Laptops and Tablets, Phones & Accessories and TVs & DVD Players. The number represented an uptick of about 5 million extra hits from August 2012.

The company reports that search volumes for the term “iPhone 5” saw a 594% spike in the days leading up to Christmas.

According to Greenlight, the term “iPhone 5” has been queried more than 4 million times (up from August's 673,000) accounting for 34% of all Brown Goods-related searches in November.

Apple was in fifth place in August, but by November it had become the most visible site snatching Amazon UK's lead, according to Greenlight's Integrated Search league table.

The Cupertino giant reportedly achieved a dominant visibility share across both the Natural Search and Paid Media listings with scores of 60% and 72%, respectively.
