Apple this week introduced “Great Free Apps” in the Featured section of the Mac App Store, listing the best free apps available for OS X today.

Although iBooks Author is probably not the most popular free app on the Mac App Store, Apple puts it at the top of the list, followed by CSR Racing, Wunderlist, and the all-too-familiar Evernote.

Other highlights include Pocket Planes, Xcode, 123D Design, the official Twitter application (which the developers haven’t improved since June 2011), AutoCAD WS (a collaboration solution for CAD designers), Adobe Revel, and more.

In the games department, you get Trade Nations (a cutesy game where you grow a small village into a sprawling city), Frontline Commando (an action shooter by Glu Games), Rail Maze, Robotek, and others.

All the links included in this post will take you to the respective titles on the Mac App Store. To view the complete list of apps highlighted by Apple, visit the Mac App Store here.
