Owners of an iOS device with Google’s YouTube app installed can now download an update that renders the VOD app capable of beaming content to the big screen, working similarly to Apple’s AirPlay.

YouTube 1.2.1 lets you control the app on your TV set, Xbox or Sony PS3 from the app itself. The feature is similar to Apple’s AirPlay technology which enables iDevice owners to route audio / video content through their Apple TV set-top box for playback on the big screen.

In addition to the “Send to TV” feature, the new YouTube app improves streaming over slow Wi-Fi connections, adds the ability to record and upload video via YouTube Capture, and includes overall stability improvements.

Requirements include iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad, as well as iOS 5.0 or later.
