Snatched tablet shipment is worth $1.5 million / €1.2 million
Shortly before midnight on Monday, two bold crooks managed to run off with $1.5M/€1.2M worth of Apple gear from Building 261 in New York’s JFK airport. It is believed that the thieves had help from the inside as they arrived at Building 261 around 11 p.m. in a white tractor trailer (marked CEVA on the side), loaded two pallets of iPad minis into the truck using one of the airport’s own forklifts, and fled the scene.
A total of 3,600 iPad minis were found in those pallets, investigators say. The tablets had just shipped from China via a company called Cargo Airport Services.
As the New York Post points out, the heist took place in the “same cargo building that was the site of the 1978 Lufthansa heist featured in GoodFellas.”
