Google’s official Gmail app for iPhone and iPad has received an important update that allows the application to integrate with iOS’s Notification Center, the system-wide alert mechanism for anything from missed calls to emails.

The Gmail iOS app lets you read your mail with threaded conversations and organize your mail by archiving, labeling, starring, deleting, and reporting spam.

Gmail 1.2 is immediately available from the Apple App Store with Notification Center support – “Banners, alerts and lock screen notification options,” according to the Mountain View-based search giant.

There’s alternate sender support, if configured within Gmail – users can now “Send-as.” Also, sessions no longer expire, thanks to a persistent login feature. The updated app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad (universal) and requires iOS 4.0 or later.
