Apple will be restoring the functionality on Monday, sources say

Apple last week flipped on the Personal Pickup switch for iPhone 5s orders through the company’s mobile shopping app. That was a mistake, according to people familiar with the matter.

Sources are telling 9to5mac that, due to a glitch in Apple’s backend systems, Personal Pickup went live last week earlier than planned.

However, functionality will be restored on Monday, September 30, at which point anyone using the official Apple Store application will be able to reserve a unit and then waltz into their local store for (you guessed it) personal pickup.

The same sources added that “Apple will continue to use a ‘queue card’ system for walk-in purchases until the strong demand for iPhone 5s normalizes.”

The Apple Store application is a free download for all iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch holders.
