Police are investigating why the charger didn’t cut out

A tragic accident is being reported out of Russia, a 24-year-old girl was using her iPhone connected to a charger while taking a bath when she accidentally dropped it in the tub full of water and electrocuted herself.

Evgenia Sviridenko was sharing the apartment with 23-year-old Yaroslav Dubinina, who reported the incident.

“I noticed that she had been gone a while, and when I couldn't raise her I opened the door and saw her floating on the water looking pale. I saw her phone which was on charge at the bottom of the bath. Her body was still shaking from the shock.”

The police report doesn’t explain why the power to the charger didn’t cut out, or whether it was even an official Apple charger. As reported by mirror.co.uk, the device model was also not disclosed. If we were to guess the version, we’d say it was one of the older models still reliant on 30-pin connectors.

This is hardly the first time such a tragedy happens, but almost all such incidents have been blamed on knockoff chargers.

Apple has issued multiple warnings about the dangers involving the use of an unofficial charger, and has even offered to rid the market of these knockoffs by exchanging them for official hardware at a discount for those bringing in their fakes.
