Make a video but don’t try to make a comedy act, says ex Apple staffer

According to one of Apple’s former engineers, Matt Drance, a developer trying to get Apple’s attention, has to follow five relatively simple steps. One of them is to make a video of their app in action and try not to goof around too much.

Quoted in a Cultofmac piece, Drance says one of the first things you have to do, as a developer looking to get his / her app noticed, is to try and get some recognition the right websites and blogs.

The second step is to execute your app flawlessly: “In terms of getting Apple’s attention, they are looking at execution,” according to Drance. “It doesn’t matter what the app does as long as it does it well and is well-designed.”

Making a video of the software is very important as well. Drance believes “people really underestimate the power of a video demo. The video should be about the app. People do too much with comedy,” he says.

He also advises developers to try and leverage the newest features in iOS, and to attend events, these being the final two steps.
