One of the most persistent Apple analysts we’ve quoted

This year at Business Insider's Ignition 2014 conference, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster is buying himself more time to nail a prediction regarding Apple launching a TV set.

Speaking in front of flashing cameras, the renowned analyst again predicts Apple’s foray into the TV business. This time he’s not taking any more chances. Instead of putting the product on this year’s roadmap, Munster is playing it safe citing 2016 as the launch year. This gives everyone, including non-analysts, time to predict any new product launch, not just the rumored Apple TV set.

It’s worth pointing out that Apple tests new products on a regular basis, but at the same time it shelves projects that aren’t ripe for the picking, sometimes based on the trend fluctuations in the industry.

Munster himself notes that 2014 is the year of the watch. He refuses to let go of the Apple TV tune he’s been singing for years now, which makes it all the more ridiculous. Even if it does pan out, by the time Apple releases this product, anyone would have expected it.

For now, it continues to sell a cheap $99 / €109 set top box that seems to be working just fine for the Cupertino company’s bottom line.
