Apple’s assembly partners in the Far East have received orders to build the next-generation iPhone 6 in two distinct variants, one with a 4.7-inch display and one with a 5.5-inch screen, in accordance with most rumors circling the web today.

Both models will be handled by longtime partner Foxconn, but 30 percent of the orders will be shifted to Pegatron. As for the 4-inch iPhone models (the current selling ones), they’ll be assembled by Wistron, according to DigiTimes.

Citing mostly industry chatter, the Taiwanese trade publication says that 70 percent of the iPhone 6 orders will be handled exclusively by Foxconn and that this portion of the orders will be supplied through 2015.

Surprisingly, the report notes that “The 4- and 4.7-inch iPhones will be the main sales force of Apple for 2014,” adding that the 5.5-inch model will not enter production until August. This supports rumors that Apple might hold two separate launch events for the two distinct iPhone models, one of which is basically a phablet that takes Samsung’s Galaxy brand head-on. Many people didn’t believe Apple would launch a phone this big, but all signs point to yes.

With WWDC just around the corner, few people expect the iPhone 6 to be announced at the opening keynote.
