The developers have taken the decision to split the original Foursquare in two different apps – one for check-ins, one for places reviews and discovery.
It seems strange that a popular app decided to lose functionality and split its features into two different apps, but they believe this was the logical step.
Soon, Foursquare has a brand new logo and functionality. As of today, the check-in part of the app is moving to Swarm.
The developers made sure to underline the fact that all your friends, check-ins and photos are automatically transferred to Swarm. They say that 3 out of four users have already switched to Swarm.
Foursquare will stay in the AppStore with the same name, but a different logo and branding. When you open the app, you will get a customized experience. First, the app will ask you some things about your tastes, you can follow a few experts and discover what kind of places are around you. Swarm and Foursquare will share the same log-in. Also, the new Foursquare has the Swarm button so you can just tap that to check in.
The new app aims to help you discover new places based on your preferences and friends.
