Last November’s Sony Hack revealed just how much drama surrounded the former Sony property “Steve Jobs,” the biopic of the Apple CEO based on the Walter Isaacson biography. “Steve Jobs” is now with Universal, and with a new leading man and a new director, it is eyeing an October 9 release.

A first teaser for it has been released, which you will find embedded in full and in HD below.

As any good teaser, it doesn’t show too much, relying heavily on voiceover to convey the idea of conflict, drama and, ultimately, genius - Jobs’, for prevailing when no one thought he could.

The money shot doesn’t come until the end of the video, when Michael Fassbender is unveiled as the late Apple boss, while quicker cuts show Seth Rogen, Kate Winslet and Jeff Daniels’ respective characters.

Fassbender, who still looks nothing like Jobs despite the black turtleneck and round glasses, came in to replace Christian Bale, who was initially signed for the role. At almost the same time, Danny Boyle replaced David Fincher.

All talk of physical resemblance (or lack thereof) aside, “Steve Jobs” is Oscar-baity through its subject matter and the impressive talent working to make it happen. The fact that it will be out on October 9 only goes to prove that Universal is hoping to poise it as a strong candidate for the awards season.
