Adds Facebook Messenger support on newer OS X versions

As promised (better yet warned) Mozilla is officially ending Leopard support with the release of Firefox 17 for Mac OS X. Version 16.0 remains the last version of the popular web browser to support Apple’s aging Mac OS.

The general release notes accompanying Firefox 17 mention numerous enhancements, such as an initial revision of the Social API and support for Facebook Messenger. The Awesome Bar has also been updated with larger icons.

Yet none of these goodies will ever make it on OS X 10.5, as the same changelog states “Mac OS X 10.5 is no longer supported.”

Those who may feel the change has come out of the blue are provided with a handy link to the official Mozilla blog where they’ll find an October 4 post bidding farewell to “the spotted cat.”
