Apple subsidiary FileMaker has announced plans to stop maintaining its database application for Mac OS X, Bento.

The company has posted a memo for Bento customers, stating that “FileMaker will stop offering Bento Sept. 30, 2013, and will increase focus on FileMaker Product Line.”

Regarded as one of the most powerful solutions of its kind, Bento is being cannibalized by its own siblings on the iOS operating system.

FileMaker says that its customers' use of FileMaker on iOS is growing rapidly, and therefore “Our increased focus will create an even better experience for these customers.”

Bento will continue to be available on the FileMaker Store and Apple’s App Stores through September 30, 2013, on both iOS and OS X. Technical support will be available until July 30, 2014.

Bento users on the Mac are encouraged to upgrade to FileMaker Pro. A trial version is immediately available for download.
