So far no developments on the “legit” front

A new jailbreak scam has been making the rounds starting this weekend. As usual, we make it our job to sound the alarm on these fake “unlocks” that don’t deliver on promise.

Announced in typical fashion via a so-called press release, the jailbreak scam states, “To Unlock and Jailbreak your iPhones visit the official website Here,” and tries to direct users to www.Unlock-Jailbreak.net.

Apparently, Google has started blocking jailbreak scams and there’s even a wiki that keeps track of these illicit sites. We like to think we helped sound the alarm on at least a dozen of those listed there.

Anyway, apparently the “announcement” is still alive and kicking. It states, “The Team has freshly released iOS 7.1.2 and 8.0.2 jailbreak tools for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This provider, nevertheless, is not free. It costs $24.99 on the Unlock-Jailbreak.net website. That it comes with a price is already questionable.”

Even the promoters call it questionable, go figure. The rest of the text is chock-full of grammatical errors and contradictions, these standing out as further clues that you shouldn’t pluck a single dollar for the fake jailbreak.

The real hackers who develop and release iOS jailbreaks are currently mum on their progress on the iOS 8 front, but you can be sure they’ll never charge you a dime for the hack if it does emerge.
