If you can’t run them, at least pretend to using these high-res images

As every year goes, developers testing Apple’s latest OSes have purged out the wallpapers and leaked them on the web for everyone to download and use on their existing systems, getting a feel of what their new desktops / home screens will look like this fall.

After announcing the all-new iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 Yosemite at the Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple released developer betas of both OSes featuring one new wallpaper each. iOS 8 got a mysterious underwater wallpaper, whereas Yosemite got a high-resolution 5418x3048 image of one of the park’s famous granite cliffs.

The betas are currently off limits to the general population, but no one’s stopping you from applying these wallpapers to get a feel of what your home screen / desktop will look like this fall. Download the iOS 8 and Yosemite wallpapers at the supplied link. The iOS background image comes in iPhone and iPad resolutions (both Retina) and the OS X wallpaper is also scaled to support a 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro.

As a registered developer, you can download iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite immediately from the Apple dev center. Regular users will soon be able to grab the OS X 10.10 Beta as well. Cupertino has limited Yosemite public testing to a million users.
