Apple has released a minor update to iBooks this weekend fixing an issue with textbooks not opening on iPhones and iPads.

Updated to version 2.0 last month, iBooks now supports interactive textbooks created with iBooks Author for Mac. With the new software, Apple hopes to break new ground in education.

Version 2.0.1 of the iBooks app is now available: “iBooks 2.0.1 addresses an issue where iBooks textbooks may not open,” according to the release notes.

Apple’s changelog adds that “iBooks 2 introduced iBooks textbooks.” iBooks 2.0.1 is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and requires iOS 4.2 or later.

To add books from outside the iBookstore, titles must be DRM-free. iTunes 10.5.3 is required to sync books created with iBooks Author.
