Six weeks after the release of XBMC 12.0, the people at xbmc.org are happy to announce XBMC 12.1, a new version of the popular media center software “with substantial fixes for 12.0 across all platforms,” according to the announcement.

The developers are pleased to inform Mac users that XBMC now supports using OS X’s default output device for audio. The media center now does hardware decoding with Intel GPUs too.

For iOS users wielding a jailbroken iDevice, full iPhone 5 resolution has now been enabled. iOS 6 on Apple TV is also fully compatible with the software as of version 12.1.

The volume buttons on your Mac’s keyboard will now handle OS X sound, leaving XBMC alone. Other changes and bug fixes are mentioned in the official release notes.

The developers say this update is a must-have “for all users interested in maximum stability. This is the XBMC you were looking for,” adds xbmc.org.
