If you love Minecraft, you’ll probably “dig” The Blockheads just as much

If you’ve ever wondered why Minecraft was so popular but never came around to actually purchasing the game, you can try out an alternative for free. Heck, you might even like this one more than Minecraft.

Developed by Majic Jungle Software, The Blockheads is a game that’s heavily inspired from Mojang’s Minecraft.

You get a male/female avatar, swoop down a portal and emerge in a randomly generated place where night is falling and your blockhead is freezing.

“You haven't yet made shelter and your campfire has gone out. All you have is a spade, some wood and a few sticks. You have only minutes before exhaustion hits. Do you create a bed, dig a cave or refuel your fire?” Need any more hints?

You get to control your blockhead with a simple touch scheme in a vast world with oceans, mountains, forests, deserts and deep underground caves. You can mine and collect materials to help you survive, but you must also keep warm and even get some sleep.

The game is completely free and works with all iDevices that support iOS 5.
