Skype iOS now supports Windows Live Messenger, Hotmail and Outlook.com contacts, according to the release notes accompanying version 4.2 in the iTunes App Store today.

Skype says that with the new client you can sign in with your Microsoft account, merge your data, and “chat with Messenger, Hotmail and Outlook.com contacts.” Newcomers can create an account right from the app.

The new version also lets you long-tap instant messages to edit them, and you can now express more using animated emoticons for devices with a Retina display, and edit saved phone numbers right from the dial pad.

Additional bug fixes are also incorporated in this release.

iPhone 5 users who haven’t updated Skype in a while will be glad to see that the app now displays full-screen on the newest Apple smartphone.
