The Internet Movie Database has released a major new update for fans of its iOS offerings, adding a new ticket purchasing mechanism and numerous enhancements to the existing features of the free app for iPhones and iPads.

IMDb Movies & TV version 3.3 allows you to conveniently purchase movie tickets from the app itself (currently US-only), includes more bios for the celebrities you love, and offers easy ways to buy a movie or TV show on DVD or Blu-ray.

Users can now tap the “Coming Soon” bar above the title on upcoming movies to add the release date to their calendar and, by popular demand, the movie and celebrity pages have been updated to include one-tap access to the full cast/full filmography. The list also scrolls vertically now, IMDb is proud to say.

As a bonus, “You'll see that cute little Watchlist flag almost everywhere now. Tap it to add movies and shows to your Watchlist (and tap-and-hold to add to your other lists as well),” says IMDb.

Although the app still runs on iOS 5 at the moment, “future updates will require iOS 6 and above,” according to the developers.
