Apple has made available OS X 10.8.5 Build 12F23, a pre-release version of the fifth incremental update planned for its Mountain Lion operating system.

Holding just en extra three increments in the build number, 12F23 could well be one of the last OS X 10.8.5 betas before Apple rolls out the software publicly.

Apple says OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 build 12F23 has no known issues, but might require further testing in key areas like Wi-Fi, Graphics, Wake from Sleep, PDF Viewing and Accessibility, as well as Mobile Device Management.

When development on OS X 10.8.5 comes to an end, the software will be made available as a free update through the Mac App Store. Developers can download the latest test build through the Mac Dev Center or as an update on the Mac App Store.

In fall of this year, Apple will also release OS X 10.9 (aka Mavericks), a brand new version of the company’s desktop operating system.
