Apple this week has seeded its second OS X 10.8.5 beta to developers as it moves forward with the parallel development of Mountain Lion and Mavericks, the upcoming major release of its desktop operating system.

OS X 10.8.5 will be the fifth maintenance and security update released for Mountain Lion, Apple’s current-selling operating system.

It will mostly be a bug-fix release since all the new features prepared for this year have been reserved for OS X 10.9 (Mavericks).

In OS X 10.8.5 build 12F17, Apple lists no known issues and asks developers to focus their testing efforts on Wi-Fi, Graphics, Wake from Sleep, PDF viewing and Accessibility, and Mobile Device Management.

To download OS X 10.8.5, people registered with Apple must visit the Apple Dev Center with their developer credentials in hand.
