Mojang is offering a fresh update to all Minecraft players on Mac, Windows, and Linux, following yesterday’s 1.7.6 release featuring fixes, updates to realms, and preparations for the renaming feature. Minecraft 1.7.7 delivers even more tweaks and fixes.

According to the Mojang blog, “Version 1.7.7 is now officially released. This version contains some bugfixes, a few updates to make Realms even better than it already is and prepares Minecraft for the renaming feature that will eventually allow you to rename your player.” As before, the studio notes that the renaming feature is being prepared but can’t be used for the moment.

Players will be glad to know that skins and capes are now distributed through servers and that the Server Resource Packs option is now per-server. The minimum setting for the FOV option is now 30 instead of 70. Backwards compatibility with Minecraft 1.7.2 - 1.7.5 has officially ceased.

Fans and newcomers alike can download Minecraft 1.7.7 for Mac OS X / Minecraft 1.7.7 for Windows / Minecraft 1.7.7 Linux and apply these new changes immediately using the supplied links.
