Mojang has put the finishing touches on the latest round of bugfixes to release Minecraft 1.4.4 Pre-Release to the public. The developers encourage gamers to try out the update before it goes live as Final (for feedback purposes).

Minecraft 1.4.4 Pre fixes roughly two dozen known issues and bugs, such as the tab key not working for any function on OS X installations, or Linux users’ inability to open to LAN.

More noteworthy fixes include a patch for the “unable to swim upwards” bug, and a resolution for the “placed torches jump between walls” bug.

Mojang asks faithful players of the popular building game to report any bugs on the official Minecraft Bug Tracker, “to help speed things along.”

Minecraft 1.4.4 Pre requires Java 1.6 or later and 1 GB of RAM. Using the link below you can download both the latest stable version of Minecraft for Mac (1.4.2) and the pre-release build rolled out just now.
