Google has released Chrome 36.0.1951.5 Dev, the latest test version of its popular web browser for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux computers. Among the few changes mentioned in the SVN log is the addition of SSL support to the GN build.

Matthew Yuan makes the news official on the Chrome Releases blog, “The Dev Channel has been updated to 36.0.1951.5 for Windows, Mac and Linux. A full list of changes is available in the SVN log.”

Those who visit the changelog learn that the update adds SSL support to the GN build. According to Google’s developers, “This moves files from the secondary tree to the main one and renames the ‘meta’ one to //crypto:ssl. It also adds the crypto unit tests.”

Chrome Dev builds (like the name implies) are deployed for testing and development purposes, meaning you shouldn’t rely on these particular builds for your day-to-day browsing. Working with Dev builds is also not encouraged, as they are prone to crashing and other issues that may affect your workflow and even put your data at risk.
