Facebook Inc. today released a new update for users of its iOS application on iPhones and iPads delivering an unknown set of changes. The update is likely aimed at fixing bugs and beefing up security.

Facebook iOS 5.2.2 arrives with the same release notes as Facebook 5.2.1 which enabled link sharing to re-post stories from the news feed; the ability to tag friends in any post, comment or photo; emoji icons; new sorting options; and “security and bug fixes.”

The social networking giant recently kicked off a beta on iOS enabling users to share their Photo Streams via an automatic syncing function embedded into the Facebook application. Only select customers had access to the beta at the time of our original reporting.

Facebook 5.2.2 is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and requires iOS 4.3 or later. The app is optimized for iPhone 5.
