Apple has started offering a new driver package for OS X customers containing the latest printing and scanning software for Canon devices attached to a Mac. Compatibility starts at OS X 10.7 Lion, suggesting that the Cupertino giant has stopped supporting OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard computers.

Canon Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X is a freshly-submitted piece of software on Apple Support Downloads that “installs the latest software for your Canon printer or scanner,” according to the Mac maker. Apple directs customers to KB article HT3669, where it lists all the supported Canon inkjet devices.

The update calls for OS X version 10.7, aka Lion, and newer Mac OS versions (10.8 and 10.9). Previously, these printer drivers were also made available for OS X 10.6 aka Snow Leopard. It appears that starting with Canon Printer Drivers v3.0, Apple has stopped supplying printer drivers for OS X 10.6 customers. This is hardly a surprise, considering that the company has also ceased supplying security updates for the 2009 Mac OS.

The installer for Canon Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X supports various different languages, including Deutsch, English, Français, Español, Italiano, Nederlands, Dansk, Norsk Bokmål, Polski, Português, Português (Brasil), Pусский, Suomi, Svensk, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
