DIRECTV, Inc. is out with a brand new version of its television app for iOS users, adding one nifty ability to search for content using your voice. Just like with Apple’s Siri.

DIRECTV version 2.5.0 lets you “search and discover entertainment with the power of your voice,” according to the developers. “Just talk as you would to a person and the app finds what you’re looking for.”

Users can search for programs by mentioning either the title, a channel, or a simple keyword, such as the name of an actor, time frame, genre, etc.

The app now lets you switch to TV mode to see your dialogue and search results on the big screen in your living room. You’ll need HD DVR (HR24+) for that. One other requirement is to have your phone and HD DVR connected to same Wi-Fi network.

Finally, the update adds the ability to see personalized recommendations as soon as you switch to TV mode.
