China’s IT168 is reporting that Apple will equip the iPhone 6 with a higher-resolution camera and improved optics, including an aperture of f/1.8. The current iPhone range sports an 8-megapixel imaging sensor and a narrower f/2.2 aperture.

Apple is said to be planning a camera upgrade, along with the complete overhaul of the iPhone 6 this year, and according to this Chinese report, the company has decided to increase the resolution to 10 megapixels.

This contradicts earlier reports which said that Apple preferred to improve on the optics rather than upgrade the image sensor.

IT168 also notes that iPhone 6 will sport a wider f/1.8 aperture, further enhancing the phone’s image retention capabilities.

Lastly, the Cupertino giant is said to be replacing the hybrid IR filter it currently uses with a resin lens filter from Japan’s JSR, which makes the popular ARTON Resins.
