ClamXav 2.3.3 Build 270 is out for security-aware Mac users who prefer to spend their money on something other than a paid anti-virus app.

A free anti-virus checker designed exclusively for OS X computers, ClamXav uses the popular ClamAV open source antivirus engine as its back-end to spot threats that target both Mac and Windows. ClamXav 2.3.3 Build 270 updates that engine to ClamAV 0.97.6 for more malware detection.

Additionally, the new version fixes crashes on launch with OS X 10.8.1 (Mountain Lion) as well as numerous Sentry crashes, the developer notes. Lastly, ClamXav 2.3.3 adds Czech localization.

Weighing in at around 20 MB, ClamXav still requires only Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) to run. It’s also compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), and OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), OS X 10.7 (Lion), and OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion).
