Apple posts year’s roundup in the Mac App Store

Earlier today we talked about the Best iOS Apps of 2014, and now Apple is offering a list of the same best-in-breed classification, only this time it’s for desktop users.

The Mac App Store isn’t teeming with choice like the iOS App Store is, but you can still get a fair dose of diversity in there as well. This year, Apple has highlighted Notability as the top app of the year, and Tomb Raider as the best game you can grab in the Mac App Store right now.

Runner-ups include Affinity Designer and Transistor, and the list of Best Apps continues with titles like Shazam, Cinemagram Pro, OmniFocus 2, Reeder 2, Sketch 3, Autodesk Pixlr, PCalc, iTranslate, Autodesk Sketchbook, Tonality, and others.

In the Games department, the best titles you can get your hands on this year are Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!, Hitman: Absolution, Shadow Blade, Metal Gear Rising, Sparkle 2, The Novelist, Broken Age, Thomas Was Alone, Atom Fun, Tropico 5, The LEGO Movie Videogame, and many others.

To grab these titles now, visit the Mac App Store on your computer and click the Best of 2014 banner. All you need is an Apple ID and a will to spend (though admittedly some titles – not many – are free).
