BBC Worldwide is out with a new version of its official iOS app which deploys breaking news from the BBC and its global network of journalists right on your iDevice.

New in version 2.1 is an awesome new feature called Push Notifications, which pushes the latest breaking news stories straight to your device as they are being reported on.

Various bug fixes are also included in this release, following complaints from customers on old-generation hardware, such as the iPhone 3GS and early iPads.

According to the British Broadcast Corporation, “If you choose to receive push notifications, a unique identifier relating to your device will be stored by ProcessOne on behalf of the BBC to provide you with the service.”

The company says not to worry, because no other personal data relating to you will be processed.

The BBC News app is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation), and iPad. It requires iOS 5.0 or later.
