Rishi Kaneria has uploaded a truly breathtaking slow-motion video to Vimeo, captured on the new iPhone 5s which lets you capture video at 120 frames per second in 720p.

Apple pundit John Gruber (of Daring Fireball) shares the awesome video with the world, saying “Not bad for a cell phone camera.” And you’ll most likely agree.

How does the iPhone 5s achieve this? Easy! The iPhone 5s lets you capture video at 120 frames per second (in 720p) and then plays back that movie at the normal 30 FPS frame rate, or a quarter of the speed it was shot at.

You can even select the portion you want to slow down, so that only a particular portion of your video plays back at quarter speed, for a Hollywood-style effect.

According to Apple’s marketing materials, “When you watch a video in slow motion, it feels infinitely more exciting. Whether it’s a snowboarder landing a jump or a dog chasing its tail, slow-motion video cranks up the drama and, sometimes, the humor.”
