Analyst calls the duo’s partnership the most significant technology news of 2014, an unexpected (like Wintel)

Some think the iPhone 6 is the biggest news out of Apple this year. Others see the company’s watch announcement as something that will herald a new revolution in technology. Horace Dediu, analyst at Asymco, begs to differ.

Of all the software and all the gadgets rolling out this year, Asymco’s renowned analyst believes that the Apple-IBM (MobileFirst) merger announced earlier this month is by far the most important prospect to look at in the technology sector.

He puts it in a truly gauche manner too, but we can see the necessity for this unsophisticated nomenclature. It makes sense for everyone, regardless of where you come from:

“Both can achieve their goals better if they join forces: Apple offers assistance and expertise while obtaining access and lubrication for orifice entry. IBM offers modularized access to databases through its own APIs and obtains credible client experiences. The combination increases adoption of mobile (i.e. intuitive) solutions and an increase in productivity, benefiting the buyer.”

Indeed, if there’s one OS you want your software on for easy penetration, it’s the one powering Apple’s universally liked iDevices. The entire analysis is a must-read, and we encourage you to head over to Asymco for what is arguably the most pertinent take on Apple’s partnership with IBM since the announcement itself.
