E-Commerce firm Gazelle is reporting a five-fold spike in tablet trade-ins compared to last year, days ahead of Apple’s rumored October 22 event.

In accordance with an All Things D report, Apple is holding an iPad launch event next week, where it plans to refresh both the full-size iPad and the diminutive iPad mini.

Gazelle is reporting that owners of iPad 2 and iPad 3 devices are trading-in their tablets at a much greater rate compared to last year. The firm tells 9to5mac that the “they are seeing five times as many iPad trade-ins as last year, with the trade-in rate increasing as the month progresses.”

With Apple on track to refresh its iPads this month, it doesn’t come as a surprise (especially for people who are stuck with an iPad 2 in a time where anything below Retina is deemed unacceptable).
