Apple is testing 1.5-inch OLED displays for its upcoming iWatch from RITEK subsidiary RiTdisplay to see how the hardware fares, according to a Taiwanese newspaper.

Two separate reports from Taiwan’s Economic Times indicate that Apple is taking the first necessary steps toward testing and releasing its highly-anticipated iWatch product, which many analysts regard as the first real foray into wearable computing.

The newspaper says RITEK’s RiTdisplay is testing displays about the same size as those found in 5th-gen iPod nanos, while joint venture RitFast will be supplying the touch sensors.

The same publication says Apple has chosen Foxconn to build the device, but mostly cites rumors in the smart-watch industry.

Apple CEO Tim Cook himself told investors to watch out for some awesome announcements this fall, making it an exciting prospect to wait and see if the rumored iWatch becomes a reality at the end of this year.
