The above headline is accurate, but somewhat incorrect as well. Accurate, because there’s something out there to rival the Retina Display on the iPhone 4S, and potentially erroneous because Apple could well be the first company to use the denser display that has just been announced by LG.

LG Display has come up with this amazing screen that crams inside over 2 million pixels with a stellar density that tops even the finest Retina display on Apple’s iDevices – 440 ppi (pixels per inch).

For the record, that's far more than anything you could label as a Retina display, especially considering that you’ll hold this 5-inch screen even farther away from your face than you would an iPhone.

The new LG screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio. Measuring five inches on the diagonal, it will be used in one of those uber smartphones that covers half of your skull whenever someone gives you a call. Or, it will be used in Apple’s rumored iPad-mini. It could happen.
