The US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted Apple trademark rights for iAd, a relatively new advertising platform partially developed by the Cupertino giant for its iOS operating system.

Apple originally filed for the iAd trademark in June 2011, a year after it had finished engulfing Quattro Wireless, the company where most iAd assets stem from. iAd was officially announced as part of iOS 4 in 2010.

Today, the USPTO has approved that filing, giving Apple full rights to the iAd name for marketing purposes, PatentlyApple reports.

Falling under several International classes, iAd is described as “Computer software development tools; computer software for creating and transmitting advertisements.”

Another claim in the documentation labels Apple’s iAd as a platform for “Advertising, marketing, and promotion services; advertising and marketing consultation, namely, providing assistance in the development of creative and strategic advertising and marketing for others.”
