Apple is seeking a SoC Test Engineer who will “Develop and document test plan for new devices,” according to a new job posting published by the Mac maker earlier today.

SoC stands for system-on-a-chip. It’s like all the other chips when you look at it from the outside and you have no idea what chips are or what they do.

A savvier person (or Wikipedia) will tell you that it’s a silicon die that packs several components of a computer into a single chip. That includes a CPU, a GPU, and RAM.

And while you may or may not know what a SoC is, you’ve surely been acquainted with the Apple devices that are built around them. Those include the iPhone, the iPad, and iPod touch. Even the Apple TV has one inside, and all these SoCs are tailored to suit the needs of each individual device.

Now, one lucky guy who poses in-depth knowledge of Semiconductor Manufacturing Process will be acquainted with a new SoC and a new device at Apple, according to a new job posting released by the tech giant today.

This SoC Test Engineer will “develop and document test plan for new devices,” and will “Evaluate [the] new product’s testability and operability.” Sounds like that iWatch is definitely in the works.
