Apple today is refreshing some of its product lines, including the tablet range and the desktop operating system powering Macs worldwide.

In usual manner, the Cupertino giant has taken down its online store for maintenance, likely keeping it that way until the October 22 press event is over.

At today’s special event, available to everyone via a live stream video feed, Apple is expected to announce new iPad models (iPad 5 and iPad mini 2), and the latest version of its desktop operating system, OS X 10.9 aka Mavericks.

In addition to these major launches, Apple is also expected to make some smaller announcements regarding free versions of its iLife apps, and more.

The launch event is hosted at the Yerba Buena Center for the arts in San Francisco, California.
