Is Apple so very afraid of competition from Pebble?

The Apple Watch is out and about, so the Cupertino tech giant is already worried about the competition, particularly that coming from the Pebble Watch - a popular and very affordable alternative to its own product.

As developers on the Pebble forums bring to our attention, Apple has started rejecting iOS apps that support Pebble. One developer claims that his app, SeaNav US, was denied the green light in the App Store because it mentioned Pebble in its description.

He goes on to point out that SeaNav has been previously approved by Apple without any problems. SeaNav is an application that has been around for almost two years and the latest update doesn't bring any major changes into the equation.

Apple sent our unlucky developer an email where it states the following:

“We noticed that your app or its metadata contains irrelevant platform information in the app. Providing future platform compatibility plans, or other platform references, is not appropriate for the App Store. Specifically, your app and app description declare support for the Pebble Smartwatch.”

Apple is pretty notorious in rejecting iOS apps that mention rival platforms such as Android and Windows Phone, but this appears to be the first time Pebble has been targeted.

However, the solution to the problem seems a simple one, as SeaNav creators can simply remove the Pebble mention and the app might get the green light to return to the App Store.

Even so, this might prove to be just an error on Apple’s part, although the company has failed to say anything related to the matter.
