As Apple prepares to unleash OS X 10.9.3 to the public, a new build of Mavericks is already being tested internally. Codenamed “Epic,” the 10.9.4 build is currently labeled as “alpha,” and it will soon make its way into the hands of beta testers worldwide.

Sources with knowledge of Apple’s internal affairs are telling 9to5mac that the company has seeded the first Mavericks 10.9.4 seed to employees. “Codenamed ‘Epic,’ 10.9.4 will continue to bring bug fixes and various stability enhancements to Mavericks,” the sources reportedly said, adding that the seed is in its early “alpha” stages at the moment.

When it’s promoted to beta status, OS X 10.9.4 will make its way into the hands of many more testers, including regular customers who agreed to receive test builds under the OS X Beta Seed Program.

The release of OS X 10.9.4 to testers suggests that OS X 10.9.3 development is coming to a close, and the end-update will probably be deployed as early as Monday. The last 10.9.3 beta arrived with a set of release notes resembling that of final OS X updates, further suggesting that Apple had wrapped up development on this particular version.

As for OS X 10.9.4, it will be one of the last Mavericks updates before Apple unveils OS X 10.10, the next-generation of its desktop operating system.
