14 DAY TRIAL // Apple has reportedly poached Ben Shaffer, Nike’s “Studio Director of the Innovation Kitchen,” the man in charge with research and development for new wearable products.
The new hire, confirmed by 9to5mac, is said to be the latest development in Apple’s attempt to introduce wearable devices, such as the rumored iWatch.
However, sources say Apple is working on wearables beyond the wrist, and Shaffer’s experience in the field is a critical milestone in getting the show on the road.
Shaffer’s view on wearable devices reportedly matches that of Apple’s. He will be working with Jonathan Ive and Craig Federighi, rumor has it, testing and designing the next best thing from the Cupertino giant.
Although neither Apple nor Nike would comment on the rumor, the latter did as much as to confirm that Shaffer had left the company.
