Apple has removed all ads from its Apple.com homepage to commemorate the death of Nelson Mandela, the South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician, and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa between 1994 and 1999.

In typical manner for the Cupertino giant, all adds for iPad, iPhone and Mactinosh products have been removed from the Apple.com homepage to include an obituary for the first black South African to hold the office, and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election.

Politically an African nationalist and democratic socialist, Mandela passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013. He is best known for his focus on dismantling the legacy of apartheid by attacking institutionalized racism, poverty and inequality.

Mandela died of a lung infection at around 9:00 PM (local time) at his home in Houghton, Johannesburg. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death, which was later announced officially by President Jacob Zuma.
