The latest software development kit from Apple is available today featuring 4,000 new APIs, giving developers the ability to create exciting new apps. A new programming language was also unveiled today.According to the Cupertino giant, the all-new iOS 8 allows developers to customize the user experience with extensibility features like Notification Center widgets. Developers can finally employ third-party keyboards, while frameworks such as HealthKit and HomeKit further extend the functionality of the mobile software integrating it with various new accessories.
Demoing iOS 8 on stage at Moscone West today, Craig Federighi announced Metal, a new graphics technology that leverages the power of the A7 processor inside new-gen devices, as well as the new programming language called Swift.
“With more than 800 million iOS devices sold worldwide, the opportunity for developers is huge,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “This is the biggest iOS release since the launch of the App Store. The iOS 8 SDK delivers more than 4,000 new APIs including amazing new frameworks, greater extensibility and a revolutionary new programming language.”
To download the iOS 8 beta and SDK, all you need is an iOS Developer Program membership. The assets are available at developer.apple.com, while the Swift programming language can be grabbed from the iBooks Store.
