Migrate books from iTunes to the new iBooks library in OS X Mavericks

People who used to store books in their iTunes libraries prior to installing Mavericks may have noticed that not all of their reading material has migrated to iBooks 1.0, the desktop version of the reading application borrowed from iOS.

If that’s you, Apple has a simple resolution. Instead of having to find and move books manually, simply update to iBooks 1.0.1. You can fetch the new version from the Mac App Store’s Software Updates tab (no standalone download available).

Apple’s KB article TS5326 states, “If you upgraded to Mavericks, and noticed that not all of your books were migrated from iTunes into iBooks v1.0, update to iBooks 1.0.1 to import the rest of your books.”

Once you’ve performed the update, simply launch iBooks again and, from the File menu, choose “Move books from iTunes.”

“This moves any additional PDFs or books from iTunes that weren't previously migrated,” Apple says.
