Apple has superseded its Xcode 5 developer toolkit promoting it to DP5 status alongside the new iOS 7 Beta 5 release.

Aimed at software development and testing on iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks (both unreleased operating systems), Xcode 5 Developer Preview 5 is available as a free download to registered Apple developers.

Xcode 5 Developer Preview 4 requires OS X 10.8.4 Mountain Lion or later, and doesn’t run on earlier versions of Apple’s desktop operating system. According to the release notes accompanying this new beta, Xcode 5 DP5 “supports development for iOS 7, OS X 10.9, and OS X 10.8.”

To check out the full set of changes included in the new Xcode, as well as to download the actual software, developers enrolled with Apple must visit the Mac or iOS Dev Center with their credentials in hand.
