Learn how to control your Keynote presentation from an iOS device

After updating its Keynote applications on iOS and OS X, Apple has released a tutorial explaining how iPhone and iPad users can employ the software as a presentation remote for their slides.

Apple used to sell a standalone Keynote Remote app, but Keynote 2.1 now includes the remote functionality as well, making the other app irrelevant. The company thus pulled it.

The Cupertino giant is now showing customers how to use the Remote function inside the app via a nicely crafted tutorial which explains things like: Linking Keynote Remote to your Mac, linking Keynote Remote to another iOS device, using Keynote Remote, and using Keynote Remote with Bluetooth.

Keynote Remote requires what Apple calls “an iOS playback device” with Keynote 2.1 or later or a Mac playback device with Keynote 6.1 or later.

Customers who are emotionally attached to the former standalone app and won’t let go of it can see this other guide which shows them how to use the Keynote Remote app instead.

Additional information is also included in KB article HT6112, such as using a Mac to create a computer-to-computer network, tips to get a decent slideshow running (such as disabling incoming phone calls), using AirPlay to play the presentation, etc.
